Every Body Valentina Skirt Lucky 13
Valentina features an inner wrap feature, pockets and cute tie to the back. She is part of our Every Body range, is available in two lengths and is made from some of our most treasured new fabrics.
We have also made this limited edition Valentina Skirt part of our brand new Every Body range, which is based on our best selling and best fitting pieces made in extended, inclusive sizing up to a size 24. We are excited to offer our favourite styles in a wider range of sizes, so there really is something for everybody at made590!
Originally run as special artwork Kirbee Lawler created for our 13th birthday! Inspired by our thirteenth year and the superstitions and folklore surrounding the number 13, our Lucky Thirteen fabric is full of symbology and meaning.
Some of the symbols we have included in this print include:
*a tied hanky carried in your pocket that was said to distract spirits from causing harm to the carrier
*salt circles are said to protect from evil spirits, spilling salt is also said to be bad luck, so throwing some over your left shoulder is said to counteract this bad luck!
*a black cat that crosses your path is said to bring bad luck, and throughout history black cats were said to be witches in disguise.
*finding a four leaf clover will bring good luck
*lucky horseshoes are a widely used symbol and depending on your take a lucky horseshoe holds the good luck in when the ends are facing up, or when the horseshoe faces down it can sprinkle its luck onto you!
*a broken mirror can bring seven years of bad luck, but to counteract this bad luck you are to take all the pieces and bury them in the ground by moonlight.
*crossing your fingers is said to create an intersection where good spirits meet to provide protection, luck, and to wish upon.
*a wishbone held by two people and broken will bring good luck to the person that ends up with the larger size. This is where the saying a lucky break comes from!
*a swan’s feather sewn into a partner’s pillow will ensure they are faithful
*bad luck will rain on you if you open up an umbrella inside. This is said to stem from the times when people used umbrellas to protect from the sun, and that opening one inside was an insult to the Sun God
*it is said that candles can be used to repel evil and that the movement of a lit candle has different meanings. For instance, if you have difficulty lighting a candle it is said that a storm is on its way.
*it is said to be bad luck to share a lit match between cigarettes and that the third person to light a cigarette from the same match will have bad luck.
*an acorn placed on a window sill is said to protect the home from lightening strikes, as the Oak tree was said to belong to Thor, the god of Thunder.
FEATURES: The Valentina is a brand new clever design we have created for winter. She fits a range of sizes as the button across band on the inside is adjustable, and it also means she can be worn lower with just a small adjustment of where you button her up. She is sized for the waist, and looks best worn mid to high waisted. She has clever hidden pockets on the inside band, and a lovely flat apron-like front which wraps and ties up at the back while hiding the button up interior band. She also has belt loops to hold the front panel in place for you, clever! She is cute and practical, with just the right feminine appeal. The skirt is cut in panels which give a nice fullness, much like a traditional circle skirt. You will love Valentina as she comes in two lengths, a really long midi length which is great for winter with ankle boots, or a shorter knee length which works well with stockings and knee boots or even some cute sneakers. Valentina is great to wear to work, pair her with a button down blouse or shirt and cute cardigan in a matching colour. We love the longer length Valentina for her versatility and warmth in winter. The weight of the fabric gives a lovely drape and falls well with lots of movement and a nice silhouette that isn’t too full for the longer length.
HOW TO WEAR: This skirt is a lovely cut paired with a fitted long sleeve basic, tucked in to give a dressy finish. She works well with our clementine cardigans and Judy coats, as the overall shape is just the right length and feel for a fun outfit! We love her with a good pair of cute coloured tights, ankle boots and even a belt over the top of the waistband, just tuck the ties out the back of the belt. We also love Valentina going into summer as the length of both work well with bare legs or footless tights. The best thing is, Valentina is the perfect wrap skirt as she doesn’t have a flap that hangs open like a traditional one, just a cute hidden pocket detail. She will be your favourite twirly skirt to wear for a fun day out!
Step by step of how to tie the Valentina:
Here are the main steps to wear Valentina (see detailed image on how to tie, don't worry its easy!)
1. Step into the Valentina, and pull up using the back section (the band with the buttons and holes on it).
2. Wrap the back panel around you, and button across your tummy on whichever button hole suits your waist size best. You may need to button two buttons if you are on the smaller end of the size.
3. Thread the front panel ties through the belt loops and wrap ties from the front apron panel across your tummy and tie at the back like a normal wrap skirt. You can make a bow or tuck the ties in after it’s tied securely in a knot.
